No fewer than 1,000 applicants have applied for employment in the
State Universal Basic Education Board Federal Teachers Scheme in Lagos.The Head, Public Relations of SUBEB, Mr Seyi Akitoye, on Tuesday
said that the board were still receiving more applications even after
the November 24 deadline.
Akitoye said only 500 applicants would be shortlisted in Lagos out
of which 135 teachers would be recruited by the Universal Basic
Education Council in Abuja.
He said that the names of those shortlisted in Lagos would be forwarded to Abuja for final screening.
Akitoye said that UBEC would conduct the screening and test to
select 135 successful applicants out of the 500 names that were
shortlisted from Lagos State.
He said that the recruitment exercise was also being carried out in
other states of the federation, adding that UBEC would contact
successful candidates.
“Criteria for selection include possession of the National
Certificate in Education, an applicant must not be above 40 years of
age.
“Candidates should specialise in any of the following basic
education subjects: English Language, Mathematics, Science, Vocational
Education, Nigerian and foreign languages, Special education and Early
Childhood and Development Education.”
According to the public notice on the recruitment, candidates, who
are currently working or receiving a salary from any organisation,
public or private, are not eligible to participate in the exercise.
“Interested candidates are to note that successful candidates
will be posted to schools located in the rural areas that may be
difficult to reach such as;
“Nomadic schools, Almajiri schools and schools identified through UBEC quality assurance that are without teachers”.
