The
unnamed mother flew off to Spain to watch pals in a bodybuilding
contest, while her kids were left to fend for themselves at home
A 37-year-old mother is said to have abandoned her three children
for a week to see her friends take part in a bodybuilding contest in
Spain.According to The Sun UK, the woman left the youngest, six and
eight, with their brother, 16, while she jetted off to the
Mediterranean.
She was found out after social services were contacted by the kids’
school, when the youngest told a teacher that their mum had gone away.
After their school contacted social services, the single mum
refused to fly back. She tried to put them with a woman who had been
probed for child s*x abuse, Liverpool crown court heard.
Earlier this year, the single mum, who cannot be identified to
protect her children, left her two youngest in a car while she visited a
gym.
In 2013, her youngest child, aged just three at the time, had been
found wandering the streets in the early hours of the morning, after she
attended a horse event.
Zia Chaudhry, prosecuting, said the woman had falsely claimed that
she’d arranged her friend to look after her children, but she cancelled
due to a bereavement.
The mum had created fake emails to back up the lie.
Judge Robert Trevor-Jones branded her “callous and self-centred”.
He told Liverpool Crown Court: “You showed quite persistent failure to perform your parental duties and a breach of the trust, and you then covered it up.
“You were asked to come home at the earliest opportunity but
you declined and remained until the expiry of that week, displaying
callous, self-centred indifference to the position of your children - a
thread which runs through this case.”
The woman, of Cheshire, pleaded guilty to two offences of child
neglect and attempting to pervert the course of justice and was jailed
for 12 months.
